The Gestational Diabetes Glucose Tolerance test is recommended by the American Diabetes Association as standard screening for pregnant women at 24 to 28 weeks of gestation. Glucose is the primary source of energy for the body's cells. If the body is not producing proper amounts of insulin to move glucose to the cells, blood sugar can become too high which can cause health concerns for a woman and her infant.
This test is typically ordered during pregnancy to aid in the diagnosis of gestational diabetes, especially for woman with higher risk for diabetes.

People taking this test should be active and eat a regular diet that includes at least 150 grams of carbohydrates daily for three days prior to the test.
