The Lead Blood (Adult) test is used to monitor exposure to Lead in people age 16 and older. Lead and organic lead compounds are found in a number of industrial products including paints, plastics, storage batteries, bearing alloys, insecticides, and ceramics. Exposure may also occur through the inhalation of dust containing lead emitted by automobile exhaust and the discharging of firearms.
This test is commonly ordered when someone is concerned about occupational or environmental lead exposure. It is frequently used by people who work for or patronize shooting ranges. For children under the age of 16, the Lead, Blood (Pediatric) test should be ordered.
Turnaround time for this test is typically 1-3 business days.
Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
Sampling time is not critical for industrial exposure monitoring. Metals with timing “not critical” have very long elimination half-lives and accumulate in the body over years, some for a lifetime. After a couple of weeks of exposure, specimens can be collected at any time.
The Lead, Blood Test has no special requirements.
