This test measures a protein called Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) in a person's Leukocytes (White Blood Cells). Abnormal ALP levels can indicate or help differentiate between a number of conditions including certain types of Anemia and Leukemia. This test is sometimes ordered as an early indicator for a cancer of the white blood cells known as Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) or to help rule it out.
A Leukocyte Alkaline Phosphatase test is typically ordered when someone is experiencing symptoms which may indicate certain types of Leukemia. This test may be ordered when someone shows increased platelet levels from a test such as a Complete Blood Count (CBC). A Regular Alkaline Phosphatase test measures ALP levels in the blood and is typically ordered as part of a screening for Liver Disease.
Turnaround time for the Leukocyte Alkaline Phosphatase test is typically 7-9 Business days but may be quicker in some areas.
Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
Blood samples must be received by the testing facility within 24 hours of collection. It is recommended that customers have their collection performed Monday-Thursday to avoid complications due to specimen transportation schedules in some areas. Customers may also contact their local Patient Service Center to determine if a Friday collection can be performed.
Certain types of medications may affect the results of this test. If you are taking prescription medication, please check with your physician to see if you need to discontinue taking medication prior to collection for this test.
