Description:

Lithium is used in the treatment of manic depressive disorders.  The Lithium, Blood (Serum) test is used to help determine proper dosage and scheduling for Lithium therapy.  Lithium levels that are too high or too low can effect thyroid and kidney functions.  Lithium treatment is most effective when the level of Lithium in the body remains constant.   

Turnaround time for the Lithium, Serum test is typicall 1-2 business days.

Requirements:

The blood collection for the Lithium, Blood (Serum) test should be done 6-12 hours after the patient's last dose of Lithium and just prior to the next dose.
