The Mercury Poisoning, Urine test is used to monitor exposure to mercury. This test is most accurate in detecting exposure to inorganic mercury. Inorganic mercury poisoning is most common through industrial mercury exposure. Exposure to organic mercury such as that found in seafood is more accurately determined by the Mercury Blood Test.
This test includes measurements for Mercury, Urine; Creatinine, Urine; and Mercury:Creatinine Ratio. Turnaround time for this test is typically 1-3 business days.
Customers receiving the Mercury Poisoning, Urine test for industrial exposure should have specimen collection done preshift, meaning 16 hours without exposure.
The Mercury Poisoning, urine test can be performed with a single collection or a 24 hour urine collection. In some cases, a 24 urine collection may provide a more accurate assessment of mercury levels in urine. For a 24 hour collection, customer will need to obtain a collection container from the lab. Customers should void at 8am and discard the specimen. All further urine over a 24 hour period should be collected. If you wish for a 24 hour urine collection to be conducted please indicate this in the notes field when placing your order online or mention it to the representative taking your order over the phone.
