This test measures levels of Antithyroglobulin Antibodies in the blood. Thyroglobulin is a protein found in thyroid cells. The presence of Antithyroglobulin antibodies is usually indicative of an autoimmune disorder such as Graves Disease or Hashimotos Thyroiditis which causes the body to attack the tissues of the thyroid gland. These antibodies may be present in someone who is not currently sick. This typically indicates a greater hereditary risk for developing a thyroid autoimmune disorder.
An Antithyroglobulin Antibodies test is typically ordered to aid in the diagnosis of someone who is experiencing symptoms of a thyroid disorder especially if they have had irregular results from other thyroid tests. Pregnant women with an autoimmune disease are often given this test to determine if their infant is at risk for thyroid dysfunction.
The Thyroglobulin Antibodies Test is also included in our Thyroid Antibodies panel which also looks for Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) Antibodies.
Turnaround time for the Thyroglobulin Antibody test is typically 2-3 business days.
Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
This thyroglobulin antibody test has no fasting requirements.
