Description: The Y-Glutamyl Transferase test (GGT test) may be used to determine damage to the liver. The GGT test is commonly ordered with other liver tests such as the ALT, AST or bilirubin. The GGT test may be useful for diagnosis of chronic alcoholic liver disease. Turnaround time for the GGT test is typically 1 business day.

Requirements: The GGT test requires fasting for 8 hours prior to going in for blood collection. Please note that patients on phenytoin or phenobarbital may experience false elevation of test results.
