ANCA Panel Blood Test

Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies

Test Code: 163873
Specimen Type: Blood

Description:

ANCA Panel Blood Test

This test looks for Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies (ANCA) as well as several related measurements.  ANCA's are a type of antibody that attack healthy white blood cells known as neutrophils in people with certain types of autoimmune disorders. The most common disorders associated with ANCA are Systemic Valculitis, which causes swelling and inflammation of the blood vessels, and Ulcerative Colitis, a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).  The ANCA blood test looks for the two primary types of ANCAs, pANCA and cANCA.  The test also measures Myeloperoxidase (MPO) antibodies and Antiproteinase 3 (PR3) antibodies.  MPO abs are the primary target of pANCA while PR3 abs are the target of cANCA.  In addition to helping to identify which type of disorder a person has, this test can also help to determine what phase the disease is in or how well a person is responding to treatment.

The ANCA test is sometimes ordered when a person is experiencing symptoms such as red itchy eyes, blurred vision, hearing loss, runny nose, skin rash, cough, difficulty breathing, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, blood in the stool, fever, fatigue, and muscle or joint aches.  An ANCA test which just measures pANCA and CANCA is also available.

Turnaround for this test is typically 4-8 business days.

Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
