Fibrinogen Antigen Blood Test

Factor 1 antigen

Test Code: 117052
Specimen Type: Blood
Fibrinogen Antigen Blood Test Online

Description:

Fibrinogen Antigen Blood Test (Labcorp)

This test measures the level of Fibrinogen Antigen in the blood.  Fibrinogen is a protein that is essential to the proper formation of blood clots.  When a person is injured, several coagulation factors, including fibrinogen, are released into the blood and help carry out the process of forming a blood clot at the site of the wound to prevent excessive blood loss.  Too much or too little of Fibrinogen and other clotting factors can result in dangerous bleeding disorders or the formation of unnecessary blood clots.  A Fibrinogen Antigen test measures how much fibrinogen is in the blood.

A fibrinogen antigen test is often ordered along with or as a followup to a Fibrinogen Activity test.  Together these tests can help evaluate the reason for unexplained bleeding or unusual blood clot formation.  Fibrinogen testing can also be done with a PT INR and PTT test.

Turnaround for this test is typically 3-6 business days.
