Aldolase Blood Test

Test Code: 002030
Specimen Type: Blood
Aldolase Test Online

Description:

Aldolase Blood Test (Labcorp)

This test measures Aldolase levels in the blood.  Aldolase is an enzyme which is primarily found in muscle tissue.  Elevated Aldolase levels are usually indicative of muscle or liver damage.  Conditions such as skeletal muscle trauma, muscular dystrophy, heart attack, hepatitis, liver cancer and pancreatic cancer may show higher than normal Aldolase levels.

This test is usually ordered to monitor conditions such as muscular dystrophy.  Aldolase may be ordered along with a Creatine Kinase test when someone is experiencing muscle pain.  Because not all people with muscle damage will show elevated creatine kinase, Aldolase can also be ordered as a followup when someone has symptoms but their Creatine Kinase levels are normal.

Turnaround time for this test is typically 1-2 business days.
