Description:
Cefaclor Allergy Test
This test is used to measure a person's allergic reaction to Cefaclor, a type of antibiotic used to treat a variety of infections. Cefaclor is taken orally and is typically prescribed for a bacterial infection affecting the ears, skin, lungs, or respiratory tract. Many people have allergies to one or more types of medications including certain types of antibiotics. A person may not be aware they are allergic until they have taken the drug for the first time. Allergy symptoms will typically occur within 1-2 hours after taking the drug. However, in some cases, it may take multiple doses before a person develops a reaction. Symptoms of an allergic reaction can include swelling in the face, throat, arms, or legs, difficulty breathing, and skin rash. Severe reactions may result in anaphylaxis which can be fatal.
Allergy testing measures IgE antibodies that the immune system produces in response to certain substances. Testing can help determine if a person will be allergic to specific medications and how severe their reaction will be. People with a mild allergy may still be able to take the medication. Since some people outgrow allergies, periodic testing can be helpful to see if allergies that are identified in childhood are still present later in life. In some cases, normal side effects to some medications are misidentified as an allergic reaction so IgE testing can help to clarify if someone has a true allergy. It is important to conduct your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any unusual symptoms after taking a medication.
