Creatinine, 24-Hour Urine Test
Test Code: 003012
Specimen Type: Urine
Creatinine, 24-Hour Urine Test (Labcorp)
This test measures Creatinine levels in a 24 hour urine sample. Creatinine is a waste product produced by the breakdown of creatine in the muscles. Because creatinine is normally excreted from the body through the kidneys, measuring creatinine levels is a way of evaluating kidney function. This test can help to evaluate how much creatinine is being filtered out of the body in the urine.
This test may be ordered when someone has symptoms of a kidney disorder or if they have had abnormal results from other kidney function tests. For a more comprehensive test, customers can also order the Creatinine Clearance test which measures creatinine in both blood and a 24 hr urine sample.
Turnaround time for the Creatinine, 24-hour Urine test is typically 1 business day.

For 24-hour urine specimen: Obtain a specimen container and instructions from the draw site. Void at 8 AM and discard the specimen. Then collect all urine including the final void at the end of the 24-hour collection period (ie, 8 AM the next morning) in the specimen container. Screw the lid on securely and return the container promptly to the draw site.
If this test is being ordered along with any other blood and/or urine medical testing, it is recommended you have the specimen(s) for your other tests collected at the same time you bring the 24-hour urine specimen to the draw site.
