Dextromethorphan (DXM) Blood Drug Test Online

Description:

Dextromethorphan (DXM) Blood Drug Test

This test measures the level of Dextromethorphan (DXM) in the blood.  Dextromethorphan is a common over the counter cough medication.  It is the active ingredient in a number of lozenges, sprays, and syrups sold under brand names including Dayquil, Theraflu, Robitussin, and Delsym.  When taken properly, DMX can help to suppress coughing in illnesses such as the flu or common cold.  When taken in high dosages, DMX can cause a high which includes mild hallucinations, visual and auditory distortions, and loss of motor control.  Due to the prevalence and easy availability of dextromethorphan products, recreational abuse of cough syrup has gained popularity among young people.  Overdosing on cough syrup can cause side effects which include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, difficulty breathing, rapid heartbeat, seizures, and in severe cases, coma or death.  These effects can be worsened when DXM is taken with alcohol.  Long term abuse can result in serious health complications such as liver or heart disease.

Dextromethorphan has a relatively short detection period in blood.  DMX may be detectable from 3-24 hours after use depending on a variety of factors including weight, metabolism, and how much a person took.  Positive results for this test will provide numerical results for the level detected.  A Urine Dextromethorphan Drug Test is also available.

This test may be ordered when someone is suspected of abusing cough medicines that contain dextromethorphan or when someone has symptoms of an overdose.

Turnaround for this test is typically 6-12 business days.

At this time, Request A Test does not offer DOT (Department of Transportation) certified testing.
