Description:
Growth Hormone Blood Test (Labcorp)
A Growth Hormone test measures the level of Human Growth Hormone (GH) in the blood. GH is produced by the pituitary gland and is needed for a body's normal growth. In children, too much or too little Growth Hormone can cause gigantism or dwarfism. In adults, too much GH can cause a condition known as Acromegaly which causes bones in the face, jaw, hands, or feet to grow too large. Excessive HG production can be caused by tumors of the pituitary gland.
A Growth Hormone test is typically ordered to aid in the diagnosis of conditions involving abnormal growth. Because GH production is linked to other substances in the body, an IGF-1 test is often ordered to confirm unusually high GH levels.
Turnaround for the Growth Hormone test is typically 1-2 business days.

Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
Requirements:
This test requires fasting for 10-12 hours prior to collection. Because stress and exercise can raise Growth Hormone levels, it is recommended to rest for at least 30 minutes prior to collection.
It is recommended that someone taking Biotin (also known as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R) stop consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample.
