Lipase Blood Test

Specimen Type: Blood
Lipase Blood Test (Labcorp)
The Lipase test measures the amount of Lipase, an enzyme produced by the pancreas, in the blood. Lipase aids in digestion by helping to breakdown dietary fats. High amounts of lipase can indicate damage to the pancreas or blockage in the pathway between the pancreas and the small intestine by a gallstone or tumor.
This test is typically ordered when a person is experiencing symptoms of pancreatitis such as fever, severe abdominal pain, nausea or loss of appetite. It is also used to monitor treatment for conditions affecting the pancreas. Lipase is commonly ordered along with an Amylase blood test.
Turnaround time for the Lipase test is typically 1 business day.
