Lorazepam (Ativan) Blood Drug Test

Specimen Type: Blood

Description:

Lorazepam (Ativan) Blood Drug Test

This test looks for Lorazepam, also known by its brand name Ativan, in a blood sample.  Ativan is a prescription Benzodiazepine that is prescribed to treat anxiety disorders.  It is typically intended only for short-term use as there is a high likelihood of developing a dependence when the drug is taken for prolonged periods of time.  Ativan is one of the most commonly abused benzodiazepines.  Taken recreationally, it can cause a state of euphoria, decreased inhibitions, and eliminate feelings of worry or stress.  Ativan (lorazepam) is often taken with other drugs such as heroin or methadone to enhance their effects.  Side effects are common and include drowsiness, difficulty breathing, skin rash and irritation, memory loss, depression, slurred speech, and impaired decision making.  Continued use typically leads to increased tolerance necessitating higher dosages to achieve the desirable effects.  An overdose can cause loss of muscle control, low blood pressure, weakened heart function, coma, and death.

Lorazepam is typically detectable in blood for 1-2 days after use.  The detection period will vary from person to person depending on multiple factors such as their weight and metabolism.

Positive results for this test will provide a numerical result for the level detected.  For more testing options, please see our Drug Testing Category
