Mycoplasma Genitalium Urine Test Online

Description:

Mycoplasma Genitalium Urine Test (Labcorp)

This test provides a urine screening for the bacterium Mycoplasma Genitalium.  Mycoplasma Genitalium is a bacterial infection that is transmitted through sexual contact.  It can cause Urethritis in men and Bacterial Vaginosis in women.  Studies indicate that Mycoplasma Genitalium may be as prevalent among young people as Chlamydia and Gonorrhea.  Infections are often asymptomatic but may display symptoms such as burning during urination, abnormal discharge, and pain in the pelvic area.  This test screens for genital mycoplasma infections only.

The Mycoplasma Genitalium Urine Test may be recommended for people who have tested negative for other bacterial infections such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhea but continue to experience symptoms.

Turnaround time for this test is typically 4-5 business days.

Where can I find a Mycoplasma Genitalium test near me?

Check our lab finder to locate a collection site in your area.

Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.

Detection Period:

The majority of people will be detectable at 3 weeks from a potential exposure or any time after.  Some people may be detectable as early as 1 week from exposure.

Requirements:

For the highest level of accuracy:

  • Refrain from urinating for at least one hour prior to collection.
  • Avoid cleansing the genital area at least one hour prior to collection.
  • The sample should be a "first catch" of urine, meaning customers should begin urinating directly into the collection container.
  • Fill the specimen cup approximately 20-30 ml.  Overfilling the container will dilute the specimen and may reduce the accuracy of the test.
