Description:
Phenobarbital Blood Drug Test
This test measures the level of Phenobarbital in the blood. Phenobarbital, also known by its brand name Luminal, is a barbiturate that is used to treat seizures. It is also sometimes used to treat anxiety or to relieve withdrawal symptoms of people who are recovering from barbiturate dependence. When taken recreationally, phenobarbital can experience a high which is similar to being drunk including a sense of giddiness, lowered inhibitions, slurred speech, and loss of motor control. Overdosing can cause mood swings, aggressiveness, lethargy, and coma. Barbiturates such as phenobarbital can be addictive and cause difficult withdrawal. Long term use can result in loss of cognitive function, memory loss, depression, anxiety, stroke, and heart attack.
The detection period for phenobarbital can vary from person to person. It is typically detectable in blood for around 4-5 days after use.
This test may be ordered when someone is suspected of abusing phenobarbital. Positive results will provide a numerical value for the level detected. For more testing options, please see our Drug Testing Category.
Turnaround for this test is typically 2-4 business days.
At this time, Request A Test does not offer DOT (Department of Transportation) certified testing.
