Description:
Propofol (Diprivan) Urine Drug Test
This test looks for Propofol in a urine sample. Propofol, also known as Diprivan or "Milk of Amnesia", is an anesthetic that is used to sedate patients during some types of medical procedures. It induces sleep by slowing the activity of the brain and nervous system. Studies in recent years have shown a rising number of cases of propofol abuse, especially by medical professionals. Propofol is sometimes taken recreationally because in small amounts it can cause a euphoric high which feels similar to alcohol intoxication. Due to Propofol's ability to lower inhibitions and induce drowsiness, it has been linked to cases of sexual abuse. In some cases, Propofol is used as a sleep aid, although it is not intended for this purpose. The majority of propofol abuse is at the hands of medical professionals. It is easily obtainable in many hospital settings and is often stored with standard medical supplies. The danger of overdosing on Propofol is high and just a small amount above the recommended dosage can be fatal. Propofol is addictive and can cause severe withdrawal symptoms for those who are dependent. In addition to the dangers of Propofol itself, there is a high incidence of accidents and injuries while under the influence.
The detection time for Propofol in urine can vary depending on a number of factors including how much a person has used. It may be detectable for as little as 24 hours or less with single-use or several days for prolonged use. This test includes an initial screening with an automatic confirmation performed if something is detected. Positive results will provide a numerical value for the level detected. For those who need a longer detection period, a Propofol Hair Drug Test is also available.
Turnaround for this test is typically 7-14 business days. Turnaround is typically longer when confirmatory testing is necessary.
At this time, Request A Test does not offer DOT (Department of Transportation) certified testing.
