Shellfish Allergy Test
The Shellfish Allergy Test looks for allergic reactions to various types of shellfish. Allergic reactions to shellfish can develop at any time in a person's life even if they have had no prior problems. Typically a person who has an allergy to one type of shellfish will have allergies to other types as well. Allergy symptoms usually develop shortly after eating and can include abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips or tongue or hands, dizziness, and fainting. In severe cases, a person may develop anaphylaxis which can include swelling of the throat, a severe drop in blood pressure and unconsciousness. This test looks for IgE antibodies and provides numerical results.
