Description:
This test looks for the presence of various stimulants in a urine sample. Stimulants or "uppers" are a variety of substances that affect the nervous system to speed up parts of the brain and/or body. Using stimulants can increase heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, alertness, stamina, body temperature, metabolism, and aggressiveness. They may also be used to suppress appetite and stimulate weight loss. Some types of stimulants may be prescribed for conditions such as ADHD or narcolepsy. Abusing stimulants can lead to tolerance and addiction. Long term abuse can result in serious health complications such as heart damage, stroke, cerebral hemorrhaging, and seizures. The use of most types of stimulants is prohibited for athletes due to the unfair advantage they can give. Most stimulants are detectable in urine for 1-3 days after use. The detection period may vary depending on the person and how much they have taken.
