This test measures Strontium levels in a person's Blood. Strontium is a naturally occurring element found in rocks, soil, coal, and oil. People who work in industrial settings which produce ceramics, glass, pyrotechnics, medicines, paint and fluorescent lights may be exposed to Strontium. It is also possible to be exposed through contaminated food, water or air.
Strontium poisoning can cause anemia, damage bone marrow, affect the blood's ability to clot and may cause cancer. Strontium exposure is especially dangerous for children.
