Description:
12 Panel Hair Follicle MRO Drug Screening
This test includes an MRO review. An MRO is a licensed physician who reviews and interprets laboratory results. This helps to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the drug testing process. See below for more details.**
MRO drug tests are priced $30 higher than the equivalent non-MRO test. A 12-panel Hair Drug Test without MRO is also available for a lower cost with quicker turnaround.
The 12 Panel Hair Follicle test provides testing for common drugs of abuse with a longer detection period than other sample types. Hair drug testing can typically detect drugs for approximately the past 90 days. It may take up to 7-10 days after use for drugs to be detectable in hair.
Because hair follicle testing looks for drug metabolites, external or second-hand exposure should not cause a false-positive result. However, to ensure the accuracy of your testing, it is still recommended to avoid any type of exposure to substances that may be detectable by a drug test.
Please note that hair follicle testing may not be ideal for detecting casual or one-time drug use. This type of test is typically more appropriate for detecting chronic use. This test provides an initial screening with confirmatory testing on any positive results at no additional cost. In the event of a positive result, a numerical value will be provided for the level of any substance that are detected.
This hair drug test looks for:
- Amphetamines (including Methamphetamine)
- Barbiturates
- Benzodiazepines
- Cocaine
- Meperidine (Demerol)
- Methadone
- Opiates (Codeine, Morphine, 6-MAM)
- Oxycodone (Oxymorphone) & Hydrocodone (Hydromorphone)
- Phencyclidine (PCP)
- Propoxyphene
- Marijuana (THC)
- Tramadol
**Once the testing is complete, the results will be sent to a Medical Review Officer (MRO).**
- All test results, positive and negative, will be signed by the MRO.
- Negative test results will be reviewed, signed, and released by the MRO without contacting the customer.
- Positive test results (one or more positive) will be contacted by MRO to review and medications the customer may be taking for documentation.
- The MRO will make 3 attempts to contact the customer. After 3 attempts, if they are unable to contact the customer, the results will be signed and released.
- At the MRO's discretion, a positive result may be changed to negative if they can verify that it was caused by medication that was being taken as prescribed.
Please see our MRO Drug Testing category for a full selection of testing options that include MRO review. For all other drug testing options, please see our All Drug Testing category.
Turnaround time for results:
- Results are provided after the MRO review process has been completed.
- Negative results typically turnaround in 4-8 business days (3-5 business days for the lab to complete testing + 1-3 business days for the MRO to review, sign, and release the results).
- Positive results typically turnaround in 8-20 business days (6-14 business days for the lab to complete testing + up to 5 business days for the MRO to contact the customer, review, sign, and release the results).

At this time, Request A Test does not offer DOT (Department of Transportation) certified testing.
Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
Requirements:
Please do not bring information on prescription medications you are taking to the lab. In the event of one or more positive results, the MRO will request this information when they contact you.
Please note that not all lab locations are able to perform the collections for hair drug testing. When placing a testing order online, you will only be able to select from lab locations that can perform this type of testing.
This test is intended to screen for drugs of abuse and is not appropriate for pain management or therapeutic monitoring. Customers who require pain management testing should consult their prescribing physician.
Hair samples must be collected from near the crown of the head. Hair must be at least 1.5-2 inches in length. Hair samples will be cut as close to the scalp as possible. The lab will be required to take a sample of at least 90-120 strands. Samples from areas other than the head will not be collected due to the inconsistent rate of growth for body hair.
