Description:
This test is used to detect the presence of Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCA) in a urine sample. In the event of a positive result, this test will provide numerical results for the level detected. Tricyclic Antidepressants are typically prescribed to treat depression, chronic pain and conditions such as Bipolar and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Taking TCA without a prescription or taking more than the prescribed dosage can cause severe health complications and in many cases can be fatal.
This Tricyclic (TCA) Antidepressants test is typically ordered when a person is suspected of abusing prescription Tricyclic Antidepressants especially if they are displaying symptoms such as confusion, difficulty concentrating, low blood pressure, dilated pupils, elevated body temperature, sedation or hallucinations. TCA testing may be ordered by employers in workplaces which require the use of heavy machinery or in the healthcare industry where staff have easier access to prescription medication.
A TCA Screen which will only provide positive or negative results is also available.
Turnaround for this test is typically 2-3 business days. Turnaround for positive results may be longer due to the need for repeat testing.
Check our lab finder to locate a collection site in your area.
