Alkaline Phosphatase Isoenzymes (ALP) Blood Test (Labcorp)
This test is used to calculate Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) levels in several different tissues throughout the body. ALP is an enzyme found primarily in the liver and bones. Isoenzymes are distinct forms of ALP produced by different tissues in the body.
The Alkaline Phosphatase Isoenzyme test measures:
- Total ALP
- Liver ALP Isoenzymes
- Bone ALP Isoenzymes
- Intestinal ALP Isoenzymes
Elevated ALP levels can be associated with a number of health concerns and narrowing down which part of the body is producing ALP can help aid in a diagnosis. Liver ALP will often be elevated before other markers for liver disease in conditions such as Hepatitis and cirrhosis. Bone ALP may be elevated in conditions such as bone cancer or osteomalacia. Intestinal ALP may be increased in conditions such as perforated bowel, ulcers of the stomach or intestines, or malabsorption disorders.
The Alkaline Phosphatase Isoenzyme test is typically ordered when a person has signs of a bone or liver disorder. It may be ordered with other liver tests such as a Hepatic Function Panel.

Requirements:
Overnight fasting is required. Donors who have B or O blood group and are secretors may have an elevated ALP about two hours after a fatty meal
