This test measures a person's allergic reaction to avocado. Avocados have become very popular and are used n a variety of recipes. The popularity of avocados has lead to an increase in the number of people realizing they are allergic to them. People who have a latex allergy are often also allergic to avocados and other fruits such as bananas, kiwis, and melons due to due to the fact that they contain similar proteins.
Allergy symptoms can develop anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours after ingestion. Common food allergy symptoms include rash, hives, itching, cough, wheezing, tightening of the throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and lightheadedness. People with a severe allergy may experience anaphylaxis which can be fatal.

Positive allergy test results should be discussed with a person's doctor to determine the appropriate follow up.
