Latex Allergy Blood Test

IgE

Test Code: 650390
Specimen Type: Blood

Description:

Latex Allergy Blood Test

This Latex Allergy test looks for IgE antibodies which determine if a person has an allergic reaction to Latex, an ingredient found in most rubber products.  There has been a significant rise in cases of Latex allergies in recent years likely due to the increase in the use of products which contain Latex.

Signs of a Latex allergy typically include an itchy, red rash on the skin which appears shortly after contact.  In some cases, more extreme reactions such as hives, tightening of the throat, or difficulty breathing can occur.  In people with a severe allergy, these reactions can be fatal.  Some people can also have an allergic reaction to foods which contain similar proteins to those found in Latex such as bananas, melons, avocado, kiwi, and chestnuts.

For additional testing options, pelase see our Allergy Testing Category.

Turnaround time for the Latex Allergy test is typically 3-5 business days.

Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.

Requirements:

The Latex Allergy Test has no fasting requirements.
