Description:
Benzodiazepine (Xanax/Valium) Confirmation Blood Drug Test
This test measures Benzodiazepines in the blood. Benzodiazepine medications such as Valium and Xanax are some of the most commonly prescribed drugs in the US. They act on the central nervous system which makes them useful in the treatment of disorders such as anxiety, insomnia, and seizures. Due to their lower risk of addiction and overdose, benzodiazepines have largely replaced barbiturates in recent decades. Benzodiazepines are frequently abused for the relaxed euphoric high they can produce. Benzos have also been linked to cases of sexual assault because they can lower inhibitions and act as a tranquilizer. While safer than barbiturates, benzodiazepines can still be quite dangerous when taken improperly, especially when used in conjunction with other drugs or alcohol. They can cause side effects such as drowsiness, confusion, blurred vision, slurred speech, loss of coordination, muscle weakness, and difficulty breathing. Overdosing can result in coma or death.
Benzodiazepines are typically detectable in blood for 6-48 hours after use. The detection period will vary from person to person and can be affected by factors such as height, weight, metabolism, and what type of drug was taken. Positive results for this test will provide a numerical value for the level detected.
A qualitative benzodiazepine blood screen or a urine benzodiazepine test are also available. Please see our Drug Testing Category for additional options.
Turnaround for this test is typically 5-10 business days.
