Description:
Breath alcohol testing uses an electronic device, commonly known as a breathalyzer, to estimate how much alcohol is in the air a person breathes out. This in turn allows an estimated calculation of how much alcohol is in a person's blood. The testing device conforms to standards listed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA.) Breath testing can typically detect alcohol levels as early as 15 minutes after ingestion. Levels typically peak about an hour after ingestion.
Products that contain alcohol such as mouthwash or breath fresheners can falsely elevate breath alcohol test results. The use of tobacco and nicotine products, including, vaping can falsely elevate breath alcohol test results. Other factors can affect how quickly a person's alcohol level rises or falls. These include weight, gender, and how recently you have eaten.
Alcohol breath testing is most commonly ordered for post-accident testing or as part of a drug-free workplace program.
Please note that this test is only performed at a lab collection site. The person being tested will need to report to a lab site for the test to be performed. Test results will not be provided to the person being tested at the lab. Results will be available through the ordering party's online account with Request A Test.
Results for Alcohol Breath Testing are typically available the same day. Results for testing that is performed near the end of the business day or on weekends may not be available until the following business day.

At this time, Request A Test does not offer DOT (Department of Transportation) certified testing.
Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.

Please note that not all lab locations are able to perform alcohol breath testing testing. Request A Test will verify that the selected lab is able to perform the collection.
Please note: This test will not be submitted to a Medical Review Officer (MRO). We offer Rapid Urine Drug Testing and Saliva Drug Testing that will include an MRO review only if at least one positive appears on the test results. Please contact Request A Test with any questions.
