Carnitine Blood Test

Carnitor, Levocarnitine

Test Code: 706500
Specimen Type: Blood
Carnitine Blood Test Online

Description:

Carnitine Blood Test (Labcorp)

This test measures the level of Carnitine in the blood.  Carnitine is a nutrient which helps the body convert fats into energy.  It is produced in the liver and kidneys and found in most parts of the body.  If a person has low levels of carnitine, their body cannot process fats and will only be able to use blood sugar for energy which can lead to a number of health complications.  This test measures both total and free carnitine

Low carnitine can cause symptoms such as tiredness, weakness and anemia. Carnitine deficiency is often associated with type 2 diabetes, certain types of cancer, heart problems and kidney problems and testing is often ordered for people being treated for these conditions.  Other common blood tests such as a Complete Blood Count (CBC) and Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) are often ordered along with Carnitine.

Turnaround for this test is typically 3-5 business days.
