Description:
Delta-8 & Delta-9 THC Urine Drug Test (Labcorp)
This test looks for 2 different forms of Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC in a urine sample. THC is the primary psychoactive ingredient of Cannabis or Marijuana. It is THC that causes the "high" that entices many to imbibe marijuana for recreational or medicinal purposes. Delta-8 and Delta-9 are different forms of THC. Delta-9 is typically the most abundant form of THC in Cannabis plants. Most laws in the United States that ban the sale or use of marijuana specifically refer to products containing Delta-9 THC. Delta-8 is also found in Cannabis but in much smaller quantities than Delta-9. Because of this, Delta-8 is often manufactured from cannabidiol (CBD) derived from hemp. While Delta-8 can produce similar effects to Delta-9, they are generally less potent.
What is the Delta-8 Loophole?
Most marijuana laws ban the production and sale of cannabis products containing Delta-9. However, it is legal to grow hemp which typically contains very low levels of Delta-9 but also contains other forms of THC including Delta-8. In states that ban marijuana use, this has led to a growing industry of Delta-8 products. While Delta-8 is often marketed for its medicinal properties, no Delta-8 products have been officially endorsed by the FDA. While research into the effects of Delta-8 is ongoing, the FDA has warned that negative effects from Delta-8 can include hallucinations, vomiting, tremors, anxiety, dizziness, confusion, and loss of consciousness.
Does Delta-8 show up on drug tests?
Standard marijuana tests are not intended to detect Delta-8. However, someone may test positive on a marijuana drug test after using Delta-8 because it is chemically similar to Delta-9. Most test results will not be able to distinguish between Delta-8 and Delta-9 to determine if someone is using a legal form of THC. The Delta-8 & Delta-9 test is the only type of testing that can differentiate between the use of Delta-9 and Delta-8. This test can be helpful when someone is suspected of using products containing THC but it is uncertain which form of THC is being used.
Only positive test results will provide a numerical value.
