Description:
Giardia Stool Test (Labcorp)
This test looks for Giardia Lamblia, the parasitic organism which causes Giardiasis. Giardia is the most common intestinal parasite in the United States. It is spread through contact with soil, food or water which has been tainted by human or animal fecal material or through contact with an infected person. Common symptoms of Giardiasis include diarrhea, gas, greasy stool, stomach cramps, nausea and dehydration. Some people may not experience any symptoms. The dehydration caused by infection can be especially dangerous for young children and pregnant women.
This test is typically ordered when someone is experiencing symptoms associated with Giardiasis.
Please note that a single stool test may not always yield definitive results. Multiple tests on different specimens may be necessary.
For additional testing options, please see our Stool Testing Category.
The Giardia Stool Test typically sees results in 3-4 business days.
