Description:
Glucose 2 Hour Postprandial Blood Test
The 2 hour Postprandial Glucose test may be used to screen for Diabetes mellitus. This test measures blood sugar levels 2 hours after a normal meal. Typically, the body produces insulin to help transport sugar which a person takes in when they eat. If blood sugar levels are still abnormally high two hours after a meal it can mean that the body is not producing sufficient insulin which is indicative of Diabetes.
The 2 hour Postprandial Glucose test is often ordered when a person is experiencing symptoms of Diabetes. To help a person's doctor make a diagnosis, it is often useful to evaluate the results of a 2 Hour Postprandial Glucose Test along with other tests such as a Fasting Glucose Blood Test and a Hemoglobin A1C.
Turnaround time for the 2 hour Postprandial Glucose test is typically 1 business day.
