Description:
HLA B27 Blood Test (Labcorp)
The HLA B27 test looks for a specific protein, also known as a Human Leukocyte Antigen, that is commonly associated with Ankylosing Spondylitis and other forms of Arthritis. Ankylosing Spondylitis is a form of arthritis which affects the vertebrae in the spine. Approximately 88% of people with Ankylosing Spokdylitis test positive for HLA B27.
It is important to note that positive HLA B27 results by themselves should not be considered definitive. Results from this test are typically used to help aid in a diagnosis in conjunction with other tests such as a C-Reactive Protein, Sedimentation Rate and RA Factor.
The HLA B27 test is typically ordered when a person is experiencing symptoms such as chronic joint pain, stiffness and inflammation.
Turnaround for this test is typically 4-7 business days.
