Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Factor Blood Test (Labcorp)
The Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Factor Test measures an autoantibody in the blood which is linked to inflammation. The RA test is helpful for aiding in the diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disorder which can cause pain, stiffness and deterioration in the joints. About 80% of people with Rheumatoid Arthritis will show elevated levels of RA Factor. However, RA Factor may also be present in people with other conditions such as Sjogren Syndrome, certain types of cancer, various infections and other autoimmune disorders. RA Factor may be present in a small percentage of healthy people as well.
This test is typically ordered when a person has symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis such as pain, warmth, swelling or stiffness in the joints. Results from this test can help a person's doctor diagnose or differentiate Rheumatoid Arthritis from other types of Arthritis or autoimmune disorders.
The RA Factor test is often ordered along with other tests such as the Anti-CCP Test, C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Antinuclear Antibody (ANA) or Complete Blood Count (CBC).
