Description:

Iron Panel Blood Test (Labcorp)

The Iron Panel is a package that measures iron levels in the blood as well as several related measurements.

This package includes:

  • Iron and Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC)
  • Ferritin: A protein that stores and releases iron in the body
  • Transferrin: A protein that helps transport iron through the blood to various parts of the body
  • Hemoglobin: A component of red blood cells that helps carry oxygen throughout the body.  Healthy iron levels are linked to hemoglobin production.

These tests are typically ordered to evaluate a person's iron levels when they are suspected of having a deficiency or overload.  Please see the individual test listings for additional information.

This package was assembled based on the recommendation of Morley Robbins of the Magnesium Advocacy Group.  Visit the Root Cause Protocol for more information.

Turnaround for these tests is typically 1-3 business days.

Requirements:

The sample should be drawn in the morning after at least 8 hours of fasting.

Iron and Total Iron-binding Capacity testing should occur prior to given therapeutic iron or blood transfusion. The collection should occur a minimum of 4 days after blood transfusion.

Customers who were advised to take this test by Morley Robbins and the Magnesium Advocacy Group should notify the lab attendant that the preferred specimen for their Iron and TIBC test is SERUM.  Please be aware that it is at the lab’s discretion to decide which specimen type is most appropriate.

It is recommended that someone taking Biotin (also known as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R) stop consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample.
