Methylmalonic Acid Urine Test Online

Description:

Methylmalonic Acid Urine Test (Labcorp)

A Methylmalonic Acid (MMA) Urine test is most often used to aid in the diagnosis of Vitamin B12 deficiency.  Methylmalonic Acid production is linked to the body's Vitamin B12 level.  When B12 levels drop, more MMA is produced.  An MMA test is one of the earliest indicators of Vitamin B12 deficiency.

Methylmalonic Acid testing is typically ordered when a person is suspected of having low Vitamin B12 levels due to symptoms or the results of previous testing.  Because high MMA levels can sometimes be indicative of conditions other than B12 deficiency, a Homocysteine Blood  test can also be ordered for additional confirmation.  A urine test is a painless, noninvasive alternative to a blood collection.  Urine testing may not be as accurate as a Methylmalonic Acid blood test in people who are experiencing kidney problems.

Turnaround time for the Methylmalonic Acid Urine test is typically 4-10 business days.
