Description:
Mold Allergy Test (Labcorp)
This test is used to help determine if a person may have an allergic reaction to mold. The Mold Allergy test screens for IgE antibodies which the body produces in response to mold spores. Mold can grow in a number of places in a person's home, especially in areas that are damp or humid. Common symptoms of an allergy include a runny nose, sneezing, cough, itchy or watery eyes, and skin rash. Allergies can be especially severe in people with asthma who may experience wheezing, shortness of breath, or tightening of the chest.
There are many different types of mold and some people may be allergic to one or more types. This test looks for a reaction to the following allergens:
- Alternaria alternata
- Aspergillus fumigatus
- Aureobasidium pullulans
- Candida albicans
- Cladosporium herbarum
- Epicoccum purpurascens
- Fusarium proliferatum
- Mucor racemosus
- Penicillium chrysogenum
- Phoma betae
- Setomelanomma rostrata
- Stemphylium herbarum
This test is typically ordered when a person has common symptoms of an allergic reaction, especially when they are in areas where mold is believed to be present.
