Description:
Myeloperoxidase MPO Blood Test
This test measures the level of Myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the blood. MPO is an enzyme produced by white blood cells. Elevated MPO levels are a strong indicator that there is inflammation in a person's arterial walls due to plaque buildup. This type of inflammation greatly increases the risk of cardiovascular events such as a heart attack. Even in people with normal cholesterol, elevated MPO can mean their heart health is at risk.
MPO testing is typically ordered when a person experiences chest pain or other symptoms of heart disease. People with a family history of heart disease may check MPO as part of testing to assess their own risk level.
Turnaround for this test is typically 2-5 business days.
