Description:
Omega-3 Blood Test
The Omega-3 Blood Test measures fatty acids, which are important for heart health and a number of other health benefits. Omega-3 can help lower triglycerides and raise HDL, which helps reduce a person's risk for heart disease and cardiovascular events like a heart attack or stroke. It can also reduce inflammation caused by arthritis, boost the effectiveness of depression medication, aid in the healthy development of infants, and help lower the risk of disorders such as Alzheimer's or dementia. Omega-3 is not produced by the body and instead comes from food, primarily fish, or dietary supplements. This test also measures Omega-6, another type of fatty acid that is typically found in nuts, seeds, and vegetable oils. Omega-6 can be healthier than other types of fats in moderation, but excessive amounts can still contribute to heart disease. A healthy diet should have a balance between Omega-3 and Omega-6. In addition, this test provides measurements for several types of Omega-3 fatty acids, including Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA), and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA). It also measures specific types of Omega-6 Fatty acids, including Arachidonic Acid (AA) and Linoleic Acid (LA).

- Saturated Fatty Acid Index
- Trans Fatty Acid Index
- Unsaturated/Saturated Ratio
