Potassium, Urine (24-hour) Test Online

Description:

Potassium 24 Hour Urine Test

This test measures potassium levels in a 24 hour urine sample.  Potassium is an electrolyte important to body and muscle function. Irregular Potassium Levels can be indicative of a number of conditions including kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid disorders, and gastrointestinal problems. Some medications such as those for high blood pressure can affect the body's ability to excrete Potassium at a normal rate resulting in levels that are too high or too low. Irregular Potassium levels due to diet are possible but less common.

Urine potassium testing may be ordered when someone has a condition which causes vomiting, diarhea or excessive sweating all of which can lower potassium levels.  This test is sometimes done as a follow up when someone has irregular results from a Potassium Blood Test.  It can also be used to monitor people taking medication known to affect potassium levels.

Turnaround time for the Potassium, 24-hour Urine test is typically 1 business day.
