This test provides a measurement for Triglycerides in the blood. Triglycerides are a form of fat created from calories in food which are not used by the body. Elevated Triglyceride levels are usually associated with an increased risk for heart disease. Abnormal Triglyceride levels may also indicate an issue with the body's ability to manage blood sugar. This test is most commonly included as part of a Lipid Panel Cholesterol test.
A Triglycerides test is usually ordered as part of a periodic check to evaluate risk factors for heart disease. It may also be ordered to monitor someone who has previously shown elevated Triglyceride levels or is being treated for Diabetes.
