Apolipoprotein A1 Blood Test Online

Description:

Apolipoprotein A1 Blood Test (Labcorp)

This test measures the level of Apolipoprotein A1 (APO A1) in the blood.  APO A1 is a protein which is the primary component of HDL cholesterol, also known as the good cholesterol.  HDL helps remove excess cholesterol from the body and prevents the buildup of plaque in the arteries.  APO A1 levels typically rise and fall along with HDL.  APO A1 deficiency can mean an increased risk of heart disease.

An Apolipoprotein A1 test is typically ordered when a person has high cholesterol to help determine if it is caused by a deficiency of APO A1.  It may also be done when a person has a family history of heart disease or to monitor treatment for high cholesterol.  APO A1 is often done with other tests such as a Lipid Panel Cholesterol Test.  An Apolipoprotein Assessment which measures APO A1 and APO B is also available.

Turnaround for the Apolipoprotein A1 test is typically 1-3 business days.
