Apolipoprotein B Blood Test

Apo B

Test Code: 167015
Specimen Type: Blood

Description:

Apolipoprotein B Blood Test

This test measures the level of Apolipoprotein B (Apo B) in the blood.  Apo B is one of the primary components of LDL (the "bad" cholesterol).  Elevated Apo B levels are associated with an increased risk for Coronary Heart Disease.  This test is especially useful for people who have elevated Triglyceride levels which make it difficult to accurately measure their LDL levels.  A person's Apo B level will typically rise along with their LDL.

The Apo B test is usually ordered along with other tests such as a Lipid Panel or NMR Lipoprofile to assess risk for heart disease.  This test is also ordered when someone has a family history of heart disease or to monitor someone who is being treated for high cholesterol.

Turnaround time for the Apolipoprotein B test is typically 1-3 business days.

Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.

Requirements:

The Apolipoprotein B test requires fasting for 12 - 14 hours prior to going in for blood collection.
