Description:
Arsenic Blood Test (Labcorp)
This test measures levels of Arsenic in the blood. Arsenic is an element which can be toxic to humans. Arsenic is often found in low concentrations in the environment and some types of food. Low levels of Arsenic are not typically harmful. Higher concentrations of Arsenic, such as that found in industrial settings and in products such as pesticide, weed killer and paint, can be far more toxic and dangerous if breathed in or consumed.
A person exposed to high levels of arsenic should seek immediate medical attention as arsenic toxicity can be fatal. Symptoms of acute arsenic exposure can include, abdominal pain, nausea, dehydration, dark colored urine, vertigo, heart problems, and shock. Long-term exposure to lower levels of arsenic can cause red or discolored skin, rash, liver and kidney issues, defects of the nervous system, and the development of certain types of cancer.
Arsenic has a very short detection period in the blood as it is quickly absorbed into the tissues of the body. Depending on the level of exposure, arsenic will typically only be detectable for 6 hours to 2 days. For long-term or chronic exposure, Urine Arsenic testing is recommended.
Arsenic testing is also included as part of the Heavy Metals II Profile.
The turnaround time for the Arsenic, Blood test is typically 4-6 business days.
