C1 Esterase Inhibitor (INH) Blood Test Online

Description:

C1 Esterase Inhibitor (INH) Blood Test (Labcorp)

This test measures the level of C1 Esterase Inhibitor (C1-INH) in the blood.  C1 is one of the 9 major proteins in the complement system which helps the body protect itself from infections.  C1 esterase inhibitor helps control the function of C1.  Deficiency in C1-INH can indicate an inherited disorder known as Hereditary Angioedema.  Angioedema causes recurrent swelling in tissues throughout the body including the feet, face, hands, throat, and intestines.  In addition to the swelling, symptoms can include abdominal pain, vomiting, dehydration, cramping, and a red rash.  Other conditions that can cause lower-than-normal levels of C1-INH include malnutrition, blood infection, bacterial infection, lupus, and kidney disease.

This test is typically ordered when someone has symptoms of hereditary angioedema especially if they have a family history of the disorder.

Turnaround for this test is typically 3-5 business days.
