Ceruloplasmin Blood Test
Ceruloplasmin Blood Test (Labcorp)
This test is used to measure Ceruloplasmin levels in the blood. Ceruloplasmin is a protein produced in the liver that stores and carries copper throughout the body. A Ceruloplasmin blood test is typically used to aid in the diagnosis of Wilson's Disease which causes unsafe levels of copper to build up in the body. Abnormal Ceruloplasmis levels may results from other liver diseases such as Hepatitis and Cirrhosis. This test may also be used to help identify conditions which are causing lower than normal copper levels.
The Ceruloplasmin test is typically ordered when someone is displaying symptoms which indicate copper poisoning or deficiency. Ceruloplasmin is often ordered at the same time as a copper blood test.
Turnaround time for the Ceruloplasmin blood test is typically 1-2 business days.
