Description:
Follicle-Stimulating Hormone Blood Test (Labcorp)
This test measures Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) in the blood. FSH is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland which stimulates the production of eggs in women and sperm in men. Abnormal FSH production can be caused by disorders affecting the pituitary gland, hypothalamus, ovaries or testicles. Too much or too little FSH can result in infertility, delayed or early puberty and abnormal menstrual cycles.
The FSH blood test is typically ordered to help determine the cause of infertility, aid in the diagnosis of conditions affecting the pituitary, hypothalamus, ovaries or testicles and confirm the onset of menopause.
This test is often ordered with other hormone tests such as Estrogen, Testosterone or Luteinizing Hormone (LH).
Turnaround time for the FSH test is typically 1 business day.
