Gliadin Antibody IgA Blood Test

Test Code: 161646
Specimen Type: Blood
Gliadin Antibody IgA Blood Test Online

Description:

Gliadin Antibody IgA Blood Test (Labcorp)

Gliadin Antibody testing is typically used to aid in the diagnosis of Celiac Disease.  Celiac is an autoimmune disorder in which the body's immune system attacks the lining of the small intestine when a person consumes gluten.  Antibodies to Gliadin, a component of wheat, are often found in people with Celiac.

This test specifically looks for IgA antibodies.  A Gliadin IgG Antibody Test, as well as a Gliadin Profile which looks for both IgA and IgG, are also available.  Testing for IgA antibodies is considered a more specific way to aid in diagnosis.  However, some people do not produce IgA antibodies.  In these cases, IgG antibodies can be used as an alternative testing method.  Other conditions, such as Crohn's Disease, may also cause the development of gliadin antibodies.

Celiac disease can be difficult to diagnose and may require more than one type of test as not all people will display the same types of antibodies at the same levels.  Additional tests such as a Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) Antibody are often recommended.  For more testing options, please see our Celiac Disease Category

Turnaround for this test is typically 2-3 business days.
