Interleukin 2 (IL2) Blood Test
This test measures levels of Interleukin-2 in the blood, Interleukin-2 is a cytokine, a type of protein which plays an important role in the body's immune system. IL-2 helps regulate the body's response to certain illnesses or infections by directing the activities of white blood cells. IL-2 therapy is sometimes used as part of the treatment for people with certain types of cancer including Melanoma and kidney cancer. IL-2 can stimulate the immune system to more effectively destroy tumor cells.
An Interleukin-2 test is sometimes ordered to monitor immune response in people with certain types of cancer or to monitor treatment.
